Investment firm Just Climate unveils natural climate solutions strategy

Just Climate, an investment enterprise, was established by the sustainability-centred investment firm, Generation Investment Management.

Chaired by the former U.S. Vice President, Al Gore, the company has become a pioneering name in the world of environmental investments.

Realising the pressing need for dedicated efforts in the realm of natural climate solutions for food, agriculture, and oceans, Just Climate has rolled out its Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) strategy. Although the firm previously ventured into these sectors, the absence of a committed strategy for them called for this new initiation.

Established in October 2021, Just Climate stands at the forefront of climate-centric investments, with a keen focus on sectors and geographies that are tough to tackle. By channelling funds to groundbreaking projects and companies, they target the most pressing climate challenges in areas like energy, transport, industry, buildings, food, agriculture, and oceans, all the while ensuring sound financial returns.

The novel NCS strategy is laser-focused on businesses that champion natural climate solutions, encompassing protection, management, and restoration of forests, wetlands, and agricultural spaces. This would also deter emissions from activities like agriculture and forestry.

The strategy blends the environmental advantages of nature, stretching from tangible commodity production to carbon storage, and enhances biodiversity, pollination, nutrient cycling, and both water quality and quantity.

Adding another feather to its cap, Just Climate recently disclosed that it amassed an impressive $1.5bn for its maiden fund, the Climate Assets Fund I, surpassing its initial aim of $1bn.

In line with its expansion goals, Just Climate has set up a new office in Brazil. This strategic move will undoubtedly bolster their expertise, especially in thriving regions like Latin America, which are bursting with opportunities in the realm of natural climate solutions.
