Client Challenges
- The client team provides investment strategies backed by empirical research on rates strategy. One request was to look at trends among foreign institutional investors’ (FIIs’) investments in emerging-market (EM) bond markets.
Our Approach
- A two-member team from Acuity supported the client in analyzing bond holdings by FIIs on a monthly basis across EM Asia, identifying region-specific bond themes attractive to investors. The Acuity team analyzed bond holdings in sovereign bond purchases for India and Indonesia monthly. Using this data, bonds were categorized based on (a) popularity among investors and (b) those experiencing strong sell-offs.

- Followed all major macroeconomic indicators and policy announcements at the country level for EMs to see how they influenced investor sentiment after release/events
- Tracked redemptions, coupons and other special measures by central banks to anticipate demand for bonds
Value Delivered
- Created a macroeconomic database
- Performed a detailed analysis of the ownership pattern of bond holdings
- Ranked bonds based on sales/purchases
