Granular “detailed breakdown” analysis for nuanced lifespan insights
CLIENT CHALLENGES
- Design-life assumptions were internally calculated; the client wanted external validation from industry and regulatory sources
- The analysis had to cover a broad variety of mechanical and electrical components typical in US hyperscale facilities
- Delivery was time-sensitive, with an end-of-week deadline to inform ongoing financial planning
OUR APPROACH
- Comprehensive source review: Sourced lifespan data from federal guidelines (EPA FedGreen), university fixed-asset policies (UOregon FPM), industry compendia (CCPIA) and publicly available sources
- Data aggregation and averaging: Collated up to five external estimates per asset and calculated consolidated averages to produce defensible figures
- Detailed breakdown analysis: Captured separate lifespan ranges (e.g., structural vs equipment components) in a dedicated “detailed breakdown” tab to provide granular insight
IMPACT DELIVERED
- Delivered externally validated useful-life ranges aligned with leading industry and regulatory standards, reinforcing audit and valuation rigor
- Provided both a consolidated summary and detailed breakdown, enabling finance teams to apply consistent assumptions across US datacentre entities
- Detailed annotations ensured full traceability of each estimate back to original sources, minimising follow-up queries
- Met the end-of-week deadline, enabling seamless integration into the client’s financial models without delay
